Q: Is Fort Griffin a Texas State Park and do you accept the State Park Pass?
A: No, effective January 1, 2008, Fort Griffin State Historic Site was transferred to the Texas Historical Commission (THC) from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and is no longer considered a Texas State Park. The State Park Pass and Parklands Passport are statewide passes for parks operated by TPWD. Fort Griffin State Historic Site is managed by the THC. Q: Do you have camping facilities or campgrounds?
A: Yes, we have a campground situated on the banks of the Clear Fork of the Brazos River with three full-hookup sites, 20 water and electric sites, five walk-in sites with water only and one enclosed shelter with electric heaters, overhead lighting and electricity (beds not included). Q: How long does it typically take to tour everything at the site?
A: Walking tours of the fort take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Guided tours of the fort take between 1.5 to 2 hours. Longhorn presentations typically take about 30 minutes to an hour. Hiking the nature trails typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes each.

Q: Are there food and refreshments available at the site?
A: Yes, we have concessions that include basic snack food as well as soda, water and sports drinks.

Q: How do I make a camping reservation?
A: You can make a reservation online anytime by going here. You can also call our main number during opening hours at 325.762.3592. You will need to provide your name, phone number, mailing address, the type and quantity of sites you want, and a credit card number for reserving your campsite.

Q: Can I fish at the site and what is required?
A: Yes, visitors have access to both the Clear Fork of the Brazos River and a stock tank for opportunities to fish. Because Fort Griffin is no longer a state park you are required to have a fishing license. Licenses must be purchased before arriving at the site. A: No, it is illegal to bring your metal detector to the site to metal detect.

Q: Can I bring my dog, cat or other pets?
A: Yes, but all pets must be on a leash of reasonable length and are not allowed to enter any state buildings, including the visitors center, bathroom facilities and shelter.

A: Yes, but there is no public consumption allowed, which means you must consume all beer and alcohol within an RV, tent or shelter.
